A Little Extra.
Fragrance is the most overlooked part of getting dressed.
It’s invisible, but it’s not subtle. It changes the way you move through a day. You can be in the simplest uniform - denim, a clean knit, hair pulled back - and the right scent still reads finished. Considered. Like you meant it.
This time of year has a natural pull toward editing. Not a dramatic reinvention - more of a quiet reset. You clear what’s noisy. You replace what you actually use. You make room for what fits the season you’re walking into.
Your fragrance lineup deserves the same treatment.
The idea of one signature scent is romantic. In practice, real life asks for range. The scent you want close to the skin on a weekday isn’t the one you want at night. A small rotation isn’t indulgent - it’s simply attention to detail.
I’ve always loved fragrance. I try new ones often, and I rotate by mood and season. Some days I want something crisp and clean. Some days I want something darker and more polished. And in the summer, I want to smell like I’m already somewhere better.
If you’re trying to figure out what suits you, start here: don’t shop for a “type” of fragrance. Shop for the life you’re styling.
Think about the rooms you spend time in. The pace of your days. The way you like your home to feel. The kind of restaurants you choose. The fabrics you reach for. Your fragrance should live in the same world as your aesthetic.
A few prompts that help:
Do you want to feel clean, warm, sharp, romantic, sunlit, moody, soft, bold?
Do you want your scent to enter the room before you do, or stay closer - more private?
Are you dressing for a season of your life that’s quieter, or one that’s more social?
Then experiment like you would with anything else you’re curating: in real life, over time.
Don’t decide at the counter. Spray once, walk away, and let it settle. If you still want to smell your wrist an hour later, pay attention. If you reach for it again within the week, that’s information. If you forget about it entirely, that’s information too.
This is also why I’m a big believer in travel sizes and samples. They’re less expensive, easier to live with, and they let you test a scent in the context that matters - your actual life. If you rotate, they last longer than you think.
Here are a few I reach for often:
“Vacation” by Vacation - my summer-only scent. Solar, salty, and a little nostalgic—warm skin, clean air, easy joy. Full size is around $60, and travel is about $30.
Gucci Guilty Pour Femme (EDP) - my night-out staple. Warm, smooth, and slightly smoky—confident without being loud. Roughly $120–$180 for full size, and about $38 for travel.
Maison Margiela Replica: Lazy Sunday Morning - my everyday go-to. Fresh, airy, and soft—like clean fabric and close-to-the-skin comfort. Full size is around $170, travel is about $34.
Victoria Beckham Beauty: Portofino ’97 - luxe, modern, and quietly androgynous, with an Italian-summer ease and an exceptionally current finish—tailored, not sweet. Full size is around $200, travel is about $58.
Tom Ford: Fucking Fabulous (EDP) - I bought it for the name and stayed for the scent. Creamy, bold, and impeccably composed—wear it when you want your presence to linger. Full size is around $405 (50 mL), travel is about $90.
If you want to do a simple edit without turning this into a whole hobby, try this:
Replace the one you’d be annoyed to run out of.
Let go of the one you never choose.
Add one new option that fits the season ahead.
Fragrance isn’t just something you wear. It’s part of your presence.
It’s the quiet luxury of making an ordinary Tuesday feel like it has a soundtrack. It’s the way you can step out the door - coffee in hand, hair still a little damp, the day moving too fast - and still feel like you left the house with intention.
Choose scents the way you choose anything worth keeping: slowly, on purpose, and in a way that makes your life feel like yours.
